Sun hat

Pattern:  BurdaStyle member Sun and Rain hat (free).
Material: quilting cotton and 2 layers of fusible medium weight interfacing and bias tape
For: myself :)
Cost: Not really sure, but I used more expensive quilting cotton (Joel Dewberry – Heirloom) so I think about $7 in total. Nothing shocking and much better than the $24-30 that I saw them for in various warehouses! :-O $24, can you believe that? I can buy at least 3 crafting books for that amount of money! :-o Haha, I’m so crafty-minded!
Future plans: Next time I’ll try this tutorial and will try to maximize the size. I think right now it’s slightly too small to my liking.

As I’m quite sensitive to light, I wanted to make myself a sunhat :). I’m not particularly fond of hats or sunglasses, I just think neither looks good on me, but I’m more uncomfortable not wearing them, so yeah.

I just got back from a very relaxing and belated 8-day honeymoon to the Big Island of Hawaii; an once in a lifetime trip! It was absolutely relaxing and an incredible experience. We saw so much beautiful nature, I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life! :)

I finished the sunhat just in time. I actually didn’t wear it that much, the Hawaiian sun is less annoying than the Texan sun :). Plus, the light yellow didn’t really match any of my outfits, like always seems to happen; I often like a project when in progress, but not so much when it’s done, haha :-/. Above all, the hubby was in higher need of a hat to protect his (bald) head :) And he models it better too!

Here’s some self-conscious pictures of me wearing the hat :)

Ps. What happened to the travel pillow? Well, I just took it with me unfinished (= without an extra cover). Surprisingly my husband didn’t like the store-bought pillow as much as he thought he did, so we switched pillows. I thought mine wasn’t filled up enough, he liked it better. So that worked out well :). But he’s not really a fan of either pillow, so -someday- I’m gonna try to invent a new style travel pillow for him.
